Pakistan Bowler Mohammed Hasnain Suspended For Illegal Bowling

Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammed Hasnain has been temporarily suspended from bowling in international games.

According to a statement released by Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday, the reason behind the suspension is that of illegal bowling action. This term refers to when a player is throwing rather than bowling the ball. In such an event, such a player’s elbow will typically extend by more than 15 degrees when the distance between the arm reaching a horizontal position, and the point of release, is measured.

In the event that match officials suspect a player may be bowling illegally, they will then submit a report for further assessment. In the case of Hasnain, that report was submitted by umpire Gerard Abood after the Big Bash League match between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder (Jan. 2).

Hasnain was initially meant to be tested in Australia on Jan. 19, but since he had to return sooner to Pakistan, he was tested at the ICC’s testing facility in Lahore.

According to CA’s statement, the testing process found the speedster’s bowling to be illegal in terms of the ICC’s regulations. The testing laboratory’s report was later reviewed and verified by an independent expert mandated by Cricket Australia, the organisation confirmed.

Following his debut with Pakistan in 2019, Hasnain has competed in 8 ODIs and 18 T20 International matches.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also issued a statement this week, confirming that a bowling consultant will now be appointed to work with Hasnain in an attempt to rectify his bowling action.
